- STEP 6
Design Preparation
- Start by creating or choosing your design. It can include intricate patterns, bold graphics, or photorealistic images.
- The design is digitally printed onto sublimation transfer paper using specialized sublimation ink.
Fabric Selection
- Sublimation printing works best on polyester or polyester-coated fabrics. The high polyester content ensures the dye bonds properly for vibrant and lasting results.
- Light-colored fabrics are preferred to ensure the design’s colors appear vivid and accurate.
Heat Transfer Process
- The sublimation transfer paper is placed on the fabric with the printed side facing down.
- Heat and pressure are applied using a heat press, typically at temperatures of 350°F to 400°F (177°C to 204°C) for about 30-60 seconds.
Sublimation Reaction
- The heat causes the sublimation ink to turn into a gas without becoming a liquid (a process called sublimation).
- Simultaneously, the heat opens the pores of the polyester fabric, allowing the gaseous ink to bond with the fibers at a molecular level.

Cooling and Final Results
- Once the heat press is removed, the fabric cools, and the pores close, locking the ink into the fabric.
- The result is a vibrant, permanent print that becomes part of the fabric itself.
